I've finally updated a few posts with pictures!

For anyone who has been waiting for me to update my Crock Pot Recipe - My Chili  and Crock Pot Recipe - My Vegetable Soup with pictures, I have finally done so! :)

Enjoy! :)

Steak-umms with Mac & Cheese

I'm not sure how anyone else feels about eating the same types of foods over and over again, but in our house, we get pretty tired of it. Unfortunately for my family, I don't know how to make a whole of foods from scratch. I am learning, but they do not always turn out as they should. I do LOVE to watch cooking shows and find new recipes to try. One day, while I was watching Rachael Ray, she was making a mac & cheese dish. We love mac & cheese, but it's kind of boring to just eat a box of mac & cheese with dinner. So, I looked up a few new ideas. I came across this Philly Cheesesteak Mac & Cheese recipe on Rachael Ray's website. I do not have a very well stocked kitchen for gourmet dishes like hers, so I tried to make due with what I had. I made the noodles and the sauce very similarly to the directions, only I didn't have provolone cheese. I am pretty sure I shredded extra sharp cheddar cheese and Monterrey jack cheese. For the meat, since I didn't have any sliced deli roast beef, I used Steak-umms. Overall, it had turned out pretty good. It took much longer than I thought to make it, but my husband and kids liked it so much that I made it a few more times just like that. The one day that I had planned to make it, I didn't have enough time to make everything from scratch, so I cheated and used Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. To my surprise, we liked the taste of this combination much better! So, here is a favorite in my house - my Steak-umms with Mac & Cheese recipe.

Ingredients:

2 boxes of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese - I don't follow the box directions... I use 4-5 tablespoons of butter and a splash of milk to make the mac & cheese
5-6 Steak-umms steaks
(seasoning for the steaks: curry powder, celery seed powder, Worcestershire sauce, steak sauce, and white pepper)
half an onion chopped (optional)
green pepper chopped (optional)
salt and pepper to taste
2 sets of 4 paper towels and a plate (to be used to absorb the grease from the meat)

Start by cooking the noodles per the box directions. While they are cooking, break up the Steak-umms into bite size pieces and put them in a pan. I start with the Worcestershire sauce and about 2 dashes of steak sauce. Then, I sprinkle the other seasoning over the top. Mix it well and cook the meat until it is brown.

This picture was taken just after all of the meat turned brown. Since this is a super greasy food, I always let it sit on the burner, but turn the heat down until the grease reduces (see next picture). This makes the meat some-what crunchy which is exactly how we like it. :)

This is what it looks like after the grease reduces. Turn off the heat once it reaches this point.

Usually, about this time, the noodles are finished cooking and I will drain nearly all of the water out of the pot. I always leave just a little in the bottom. Then, I add the butter and the 2 packets of cheese and mix well. I'll add a little more butter if it isn't quite enough. Then, I add the salt and pepper and a dash of milk and mix again. If your pot is big enough, to mix everything, add the onions and green peppers at this time. If it is not large enough, transfer your mac & cheese to a large enough bowl and add the onions and green peppers.

I have a stack of about 4 paper towels on a plate ready to put the meat onto. The meat will be hot, so, please be careful! I blot the meat with the paper towel several times. I will then, transfer to it to another set of paper towels to try and get as much of the grease off as I can.

Once you have done that, add the meat to the mac & cheese. Mix well and enjoy! :)

Crock Pot Recipe - Ravioli and Meatballs

This post sort of goes along with my Crock Pot Ravioli post. I tweaked it a little bit to make it more suit our needs. I am including pictures with this post.

I used 2 - 25oz bags of cheese ravioli.

2 - 24oz jars of sauce. We prefer the taste of a local store brand.

I picked up these meatballs, but, to be honest, I would not buy this kind again. We didn't care for the taste of these. You live and learn, right?

I always layer the ingredients. I start with a little bit of sauce, then a bag of ravioli, then the rest of the sauce from the first jar, then the meatballs.

I finish up with the second bag of ravioli....

and then the second jar of sauce.

Mix well.

I cook on low usually 4-5 hours. I stir about half way through to make sure it doesn't stick to the bottom of my crock. (That was really only a problem the first time I made this, because I didn't have enough sauce.)

Stir well before serving. I usually serve it with some garlic bread and a vegetable. :)

My New Favorite Ice Cream....

I have a new all time favorite ice cream.... it is Breyers Blasts! Mrs. Fields Chocolate Chunk Cookie Dough.  This is the very best chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream that I have ever had! It is very delicious in a sugar cone! You should try it! :)

Happy Holidays!!

I just wanted to wish all of my followers and their families a wonderful holiday season! I have so many things that I have wanted to post about in the past few months. We have been very busy with our children... and life in general Our youngest was getting all 4 of his one-year molars and they made him pretty miserable.

Currently, everyone is our household is feeling very under the weather. It appears our oldest has picked up whatever bug was going around his school.... just in time for Christmas! We have a lot of things to do and people to visit over the next 2 days. Luckily, we are only leaving the house for a bit tomorrow morning, and then spending all of Christmas day at home.

Christmas baking has been kept at a minimum this year. I have only baked 2 types of cookies - Sand Tarts (which are my husbands all time favorite cookie) and Peanut Butter Blossoms.  My little guy likes to "help" by trying to climb up the oven door. He does that regardless of if it is in use or not. I have been trying not to bake too much for that reason.

I hope to be back in the swing of things soon. Until then, I hope that everyone has a safe a wonderful New Year's! :)

Snow... in October??

So, here in Pennsylvania, we have been having some crazy weather lately. In the past few months, we have had a mini earthquake, a hurricane, a tropical storm and now it has been snowing since 8:30am this morning! We went out around 4:30pm to let the kiddos play and my husband and the boys built this cute snowman! The picture doesn't show just how tall this thing is! It has mulch eyes, stick arms, a carrot (freshly picked a few days ago from our garden) for a nose and his hat is a container filled with snow.

Crock Pot Recipe - Pulled Beef BBQ

Lisa's Pulled Beef BBQ

This recipe is super easy! It only uses a few ingredient, too!

Ingredients:

2-3 lb roast (we prefer a bolar roast, but usually will get what's on sale)
1-2 bottles of your favorite BBQ sauce
Onion sliced (optional)
Sliced cheese (optional)
Rolls
White rice (optional)

Directions:

I turn the crock pot on low for 8-9 hours. Put in a little bit of the sauce and if you plan to use onions, I put them in now. I trim any excess fat off of the roast before I put it in the crock pot. If it's too big, I cut it into bigger pieces to put it in. Then, cover it with more BBQ sauce. When there is only about an hour or so left, take out the roast and pull it apart using two forks. Then, put it back in the crock pot. If needed, add a little more sauce. Once it is finished cooking, the two ways that I serve it are: as a sandwich with cheese and over white rice.

You can substitute the beef for pork. I have also cleaned out the fridge of sauces when I make this. Sometimes we try a new sauce that we don't really care for, so I add it in.  This is good all year round!

Enjoy! :)

Crock Pot Recipe - My Chili

Another family favorite in my house over Fall / Winter is Chili. It something that I make at least every other week if not every week.

Lisa's Crock Pot Chili

Ingredients:

1 lb of ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 - 6oz can of Tomato Paste
1 - 8oz can of Tomato Sauce
1 - 15.5oz can of Dark Red Kidney Beans
1 - 15.5oz can of Light Red Kidney Beans
1 - 15.5oz can of Mexican Style Chili Hot Beans
Seasonings: Chili Powder, Hot Mexican Chili Powder, Pepper (black and white), Curry, Celery Powder... it varies from one time to the next what I use.

Directions:

If I have already made my Vegetable Soup, then my ground beef is already cooked and seasoned. I find it easier to cook it all at once and then divide it up for the two meals.

If I am starting the Chili from scratch, then I start by browning the beef. I use curry, celery powder, and pepper to season the beef. Then, I turn on the crock pot and set it to low for 6-7 1/2 hours (depending on what time I start it). I add all of the cans of beans and the Tomato Sauce and the Tomato Paste, the beef and the seasonings. I also add a little bit of water. I usually fill a can with water and add that at the end. Then, I mix it all together. I stir it every so often and try to taste test it and add more seasonings if necessary. When it's done, I serve it topped with shredded cheese. You can also serve it with rice or a baked potato.

Enjoy! :)

Updated to add pictures:

Since I am adding these after the fact, I just decided to put them all at the end.

Enjoy! :)

Crock Pot Recipe - My Vegetable Soup

I am very much in love with my crock pot once fall comes around. I have a 6 quart Stay and Go Crock Pot. It is programmable and just awesome! Next time I make this, I'll try to remember to take pictures to add later.

Lisa's Crock Pot Vegetable Soup

Ingredients:

1 box of vegetable broth (you can substitute another kind if you like)
Potatoes - peeled and cut into chunks
1 lb ground beef - seasoned and browned
Carrots - peeled and sliced (or you can use baby carrots and just cut them up )
Onions - chopped
Green Cabbage - shredded or cut up into bit size pieces
1 - 14oz can of whole kernel corn (use 2 if you use the Nibblets) with the juice
1 -14oz can of sweet peas
About half a pound of fresh green beans - washed and cut into bite size pieces
Water
Seasonings of your choice - I use Curry, Celery Powder, Black Pepper, White Pepper, Oregano, Paprika, Rosemary, Basil Leaves, Mustard Powder and anything else that I feel like throwing in that day. It always turns out a little different!

Directions:

I start by browning the meat. I season that with a little curry and celery powder. While that is cooking, I start adding everything else to my crock. I add the stock first, then everything else follows.... usually however I cut it up is how it gets put it in. I add water at the end to fill up the crock pot. I enjoy the broth... but do not enjoy the cost of 2 boxes of broth.

I turn it on before I add the stock to it, and I set it to low heat for 6 hours. My crock pot has a few different options for programming it. I found this to be the easiest to start out. I can always change it later. Sometimes I start the soup when my oldest gets on the bus. So, it will cook from about 9am to about 5:30/6pm. Most times I start it around lunchtime, though. I stir occasionally and often taste test. I tend to add more seasonings at some point.

You can add any other vegetables that you want. I, personally, like the taste of the canned vegetables over frozen vegetables. I do sometimes use frozen vegetable mixes along with fresh or canned veggies. It depends on what I have vs what's on sale. I never use frozen peas, though.... canned peas taste much better! This is a family favorite in my house and over the winter I make it at least once a week!  Enjoy! :)

Updated to add pictures:

Since I am adding these after the fact, I decided to add them to the end of the post.

Carrots

Cabbage

Red Potato

Sweet Potato (it wasn't too bad in the soup)

Onion

After everything was added to the crock and stirred.
Enjoy! :)

**This series of posts is intended to be read by those who are 18 and older. So, if you are under 18, please leave this post now. Thank you!**

Day 10 - Putting It All Together

Today is the final day in the K-Y Intimacy Experiment. We start by looking back over our journal entries. Think about all of the new stuff that you learned and how you can make it more a part of your life. Send your honey a text message or email letting them know that you are thinking about them throughout the day.  Start and end your day with a 30-second hug. Hold hands with your partner anytime you have the chance. It really is the little things that matter the most. Don't forget about writing in your journal.

Thank you for following along our journey with the K-Y Intimacy Experiment! Thank you to K-Y Brand for letting me take part in their Intimacy Experiment!

Day 9 - Dangerous Liaisons

Today is all about shaking things up a little. The day time exercise is to pick an activity that will be fresh and exciting. Something that gets your heart pounding, and your blood flowing.
A few ideas:

- White water rafting
- Hang gliding
- Hiking
- Rollerblading
- Visiting an amusement park

While we don't have money to do any of those activities right now, there is a fair going on at a town nearby. I think this is my favorite time of year! The fair is very crowded, but it is filled with laughter, and fun and the scent of food. Oh, the scent of fair food! That's my favorite part! I love walking through the fair! Something about it is fun and exciting... it reminds me of when I was a kid.

The night time activity is  is one to keep your adrenaline pumping.... what you do is up to you. You could try something new - perhaps a new K-Y product? You could try out their K-Y Brand Intense Female Arousal Gel. Have fun with it!

K-Y Intimacy Experiment Day 8 - In Good Taste

**This series of posts is intended to be read by those who are 18 and older. So, if you are under 18, please leave this post now. Thank you!**

Day 8 - In Good Taste

The way to any man (or woman's) heart is through their stomach, right? My husband is an amazing cook! He doesn't do it very often, though. Today's exercises are all about cooking (and eating) with aphrodisiacs.

The day time exercise is for the two of us to cook together. I don't usually enjoy having my husband (or the kids) in the kitchen helping me cook. I enjoy the company, but I don't like people messing with my stuff. If they don't know where something is and they go looking through the cabinets or something... I find that really stresses me out! Anyway, the book says to cook an oyster dish. Unfortunately, neither one of us likes oysters. So, I looked up a list of aphrodisiac foods. We made turkey club sandwiches (turkey, bacon, cheese, lettuce on toast) with asparagus and some fruit (some canned pineapples and peaches).

Dessert is the night time exercise. We tried out the K-Y Yours+Mine Kissable Sensations for the Body.  They are a chocolate- and strawberry-flavored liquid, and quite tastey! ;)

K-Y Intimacy Experiment Day 7 - Sometimes a Fantasy

**This series of posts is intended to be read by those who are 18 and older. So, if you are under 18, please leave this post now. Thank you!**

Day 7 - Sometimes a Fantasy

Today is all about discovering your own unique "love maps". According to Dr. John Money of Johns Hopkins University, this term refers to "the sexual template expressed in every individuals erotic fantasies and practices."

The day time exercise is one for the journal and is a multi-step exercise. Describe your most erotically memorable experience(s). This could be a time that involved hot and heavy flirting... it doesn't have to involve sex. There are a series of about 6 questions to answer about the experience(s). One of the questions is: When you think about the experience, does it still turn you on?

Next step, is to make a list of 5 - 10 things that turn you on and another 5 - 10 things that turn you off. These turn-ons and turn-offs are external (example of turn-on: the scent of cologne or perfume while an example of a turn-off: arrogance).

Finally, think about all of your fantasies and answer the questions in the book regarding your fantasies in your journal.

The night time exercise is to share the erotic memories and fantasies with your partner.

I don't have any fantasies... really, I don't. I think my favorite "turn-on" is when my husband kisses me after he's had a beer. There's just something about it that I like. Maybe it's more passionate, maybe it's because he acts silly about it since he knows I like it so much. :)

K-Y Intimacy Experiment Day 6 - Getting Back in Touch

**This series of posts is intended to be read by those who are 18 and older. So, if you are under 18, please leave this post now. Thank you!**

Day 6 - Getting Back in Touch

Today's exercises are all about getting back in touch with each other... in and out of bed.

Do you think that you and your partner are plenty affectionate?

This daytime exercise is going to put you to the test! Think about this: Not including sex, how often did you touch each other throughout the day? How did you touch each other? Once you've answered those questions, come up with the different ways you could touch your partner in a positive and loving way.

Some on our lists included:

- Holding hands
- A kiss on the cheek (or forehead or lips) - "just because"
- Cuddling on the couch  (we do this every evening while watching TV before bed)
- If we both walk into the same room, we often times give each other a hug or a kiss

The night time exercise is very fun and relaxing! What is more relaxing than a nice head to toe massage? The greatest part... thanks to this exercise, we both gave and received massages! (Usually, I am the one who rubs his shoulders or back.) It has been awhile since I was on the receiving end of a nice massage!

K-Y Intimacy Experiment Day 5 - Fun and Games

**This series of posts is intended to be read by those who are 18 and older. So, if you are under 18, please leave this post now. Thank you!**

Day 5 - Fun and Games

I want to first apologize for this post taking so long for me to get done. We had to wait for a day that my hubby had off of work in order to do this exercise. We were to discover new things together. The books lists the following examples - sing a karaoke duet, visit a children's museum (without the kids!), learn how to dance - anything that is lighthearted, fun and playful. As silly as it is, I have always wanted to be one of those people that goes around to different open houses even though I don't plan to buy the house. I want to see how people decorate and how houses are laid out. It is something that I have a hard time doing because when you go to an open house, people want to know who you are, where you are from, why you are there, etc. I'm sure they just want to make small talk, but if it's an open house with a realtor, they want you fill out your information just for coming to look at things. That is the part I have a hard time with. I don't want to tell people that I am just there, basically, being nosey. This open house, was very different. It was a house that (from the outside) I could actually see us living in. It is very similar to our own house, so we were both very interested. Anyway, we had planned not to tell them any of our real information other than our first names. It was really fun to walk around a house and make comments about how it would be nice to a couch here or a table there or about how big or small a room seemed. Aside from the people following us around a completely empty house, I had fun!

The night time exercise was a fun game of poker. Only, we used Yahtzee Hands Down. It's like regular Yahtzee only it's fully played with cards. (With a little one, we play as many of the new card games so there are no little pieces.) Yahtzee in card form is similar to poker so it was a fun substitution. The other part of the exercise was for each of us to take blank index cards and split them between the two us. Each of us was to split our piles in half. One half was for us to write down body parts and hot spots (ie.. the hollow of your neck or your inner thigh) and the other half was for a method of touch (ie... a kiss or a soft touch). When done, we combined all of the body parts into one pile and all of the methods of touch in another pile. Then, onto the game. Once one person wins, their prize is to pick one card from each pile. The 'loser' is to perform whatever the cards say.

(My husband's was lick butt... yes... seriously.... he thinks it is hilarious! I would not let him use it for fear that I would pick those cards together!)

K-Y Intimacy Experiment Day 4 - Outside the Comfort Zone

**This series of posts is intended to be read by those who are 18 and older. So, if you are under 18, please leave this post now. Thank you!**

Day 4 - Outside the Comfort Zone

Today is all about exploring the boundaries of our comfort zones.

The day time exercise was more or less a "check list" of obstacles that describe our life. A few examples on the list are:

- Sleep with kids or pets in your bed or bedroom
- Have (and use) a television, computer or smartphone in your bedroom
- Leave the door open while in the bathroom
- Sometimes skip basic hygiene (bathing, brushing your teeth, shaving, etc.) because you're too tired, lazy, or think your partner doesn't care

Now, if you are like us, we are guilty of doing a few of the things on the list. This was not always the case, though. In the beginning, neither one of us would have ever thought about doing any of these things!

The evening exercise is all about the exact thing I am most uncomfortable with - my own nudity. The book says to sit on the couch completely naked and watch a movie together. While both are kids are home, we sent them to bed, put on the television and did what the book said.

While we are very comfortable with each other in most aspects of our relationship... I am not comfortable with nudity.... specifically my own. My body has changed quite a lot in the last 5 years. I had our oldest son almost 9 years ago, and by the time he was 3 months old, I was skinnier than I was before I got pregnant with him. I basically maintained that weight and figure until I went back to work when our son was 3. I got a job at an office where I sat for 10-12 hours a day. Over the course of the next 3 years I gained about 20 lbs. Then, came pregnancy # 2. He just turned a year old and I am not quite back at my pre-pregnancy weight.

K-Y Intimacy Experiment Day 3 - Everything Old is New Again

**This series of posts is intended to be read by those who are 18 and older. So, if you are under 18, please leave this post now. Thank you!**

Day 3 - Everything Old is New Again

Do you remember when you first start dating your partner? Do you remember the butterflies you get when you thought of them? Or when you were with them? Has that "newness" worn off?  After being with someone for awhile, that feeling of butterflies is usually replaced by comfort. Today's exercises are about rediscover that sense of "newness".

The day time exercise was to list all of the things that turned you on about your partner when you first met. Having done that, we were to read over our lists and see what ones still hold true. (You may have new attributes to add to the list, but there also may be some negative attributes. If there are, make the negatives on a separate list. Have any of the negatives gotten in the way of the positives?)

I often describe us as the male / female version of each other. No lie.. we think alike... we also think the same things at the same time.... we have the same sense of humor... we like / dislike the same things... we have the same beliefs... we enjoy the same activities... we are both stubborn and hard-headed... We have found that it is very difficult for people to deal with us - we have had not the same but very similar up bringings that have made us the way we are today. Having said that, we are different in many ways. The things that we differ in are the things drive the other crazy!

The night time exercise was not something that were able to do. We were suppose to pick a location and go in separately and pretend to be strangers. Then, flirt like crazy with each other and then leave as though we just met. Beings that it was a Monday night, my husband had to be in bed early for work tomorrow morning. Not to mention we didn't have a babysitter. We are not "go out" type of people. We have "date night" for our anniversary every year, and if we can afford it we might try and have date night for our birthdays. We would rather be at home with our children spending quality time with them. So, to try and complete this exercise as best as we could, I tried to recreate things from when we first starting dating. We first starting dating in 11th grade. He would come over to my house and we would get take-out food. We would then, sit beside each other and watch TV or a movie holding hands.... For supper, I made chicken and white rice and then we put on Ghost Adventures. We sat there holding hands while watching TV just like we used to years ago. While it may not be thrilling or exciting to some, it is to us. I still get butterflies when I get to spend time with just him on the couch while our children are upstairs sleeping! My face still lights up when I talk about him! Over a decade has passed and I am still head over heals for him!

K-Y Intimacy Experiment Day 2 - It's not just about sex

**This series of posts is intended to be read by those who are 18 and older. So, if you are under 18, please leave this post now. Thank you!**

Day Two - It's not just about sex

Does your relationship consist of more positive or negative interactions?  Experts believe that the ratio should be 5 to 1: five positive interactions for every negative one. Think about how you interact with your partner outside of the bedroom. Do you find yourselves hugging or holding hands on a regular basis? Both of these are examples of positive interactions. Think about it, if your relationship is doing well outside of the bedroom, you are more likely to want to get into bed together.

The day time exercise was to track all of the positive ways we interact - anything that comes to mind. There also are a few questions to answer. One of the questions was  'To what degree does your relationship have a reserve of transferable desire (those positive interactions, no matter how small, that occur outside of the bedroom), or to what extent are you stick in a "non-transferable" relationship?' I thought I would share a few of the positive ways that we interact with each other...

- Hugging
-Say ''I love you"
- Text each other (sometimes when we're together) just to say "hi" or "I love you"
- email each other
- we compliment each other
- we hold hands every chance we get
- we get the mail together
- blow kisses

All of the little things really do add up! The hubby and I always try to make sure all of these "little things" stay constant.

The night time exercise was all about getting closer, both physically and emotionally. We were suppose to face each other and look deep into each other's eyes. The book specifically says that instead of pulling away from his embrace, to keep hugging. That was not the hard part.... for me, the hard part was next. We were to maintain eye contact during kissing. Seriously... I could not stop laughing. I am not sure what was so funny, but I thought something was hilarious! Like, wake the kids hilarious! At first my husband laughed at me and while not amused he let it go. He, then, got very annoyed. I just could not stop laughing while trying to kiss him with our eyes open. I think he was secretly making faces at me. ;) I found this part to be very awkward and uncomfortable, obviously.

September 11, 2011 - A day to remember...

Do you remember where you were and what you were doing on this day 10 years ago?

I remember that day like it was yesterday. I was a senior in high school at the vo-tech in my photography class. Like every morning, my teacher had CNN on while we were working in the darkroom. I came out of the darkroom just as they started showing the footage of the first tower and then the second plane hitting the second tower. It is a day that I will never forget.

A friend of mine had this posted on Face book and I thought it was nice....

For the husband who told his wife I love you one last time before his plane went down in a field, for the wife who stopped in the stairs to call her husband to say I will love you forever, for the mothers and fathers who kissed their kids goodbye the morning they died, for the policemen who rushed in with the firemen to help get others out only to die themselves, for the soldiers who fought back and lost their lives. Today, tomorrow, ten years from now, we will remember.

K-Y Intimacy Experiment Day 1 - Love Nest

Welcome back to the series of posts related to the K-Y Intimacy Experiment.

**This series of posts is intended to be read by those who are 18 and older. So, if you are under 18, please leave this post now. Thank you!**

This part of the "experiment"  is to take place over 10 days. I will do my best to get these posts done daily. As I said in the previous post, each day has a day time activity and a night time activity.

Day One: Love Nest

I thought the reading for today was very interesting. Did you know that women have a harder time relaxing due to worrying about the stress of daily life? This means everything from bills to laundry to tomorrow's plans to a book they are reading to clutter and anything in between. Men do not seem to care about these things... especially if they are "in the mood". Women on the other hand have to "turn off" to turn on. You can do that by trying to make your love nest as relaxing as possible. I am sure that it varies from one person to the next, but that can done by de-cluttering and adding inspiration.

The daytime goal for today is to revamp the space - physically and mentally - where you can leave the outside world at the door and focus on intimacy. Simply put  - clean your room, and spruce it up a little bit. Remove the clutter. Maybe put up some new curtains or buy some new sheets or even try painting the walls a new color.

This is actually something that the hubby and I had done recently. We have the smallest room in the house and it has a tiny closet that we both were trying to share. We bought some new storage systems for clothes, and I am very pleased with it. I do have to say that I have noticed that I am able to relax more in my own room. If the little one would sleep through the night, I am sure I could relax enough to get a decent night sleep!

The night time exercise was simple : Christen your new bedroom.

What is the Intimacy Experiment?  It is a 10 day experiment with the goal of getting you and your partner closer than ever. You will reconnect and rediscover the fun, passion and sizzle of sex through a series of exercises that will take place both in and out of the bedroom.

"According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the definition of intimacy is 'the state of being intimate: familiarity."

Things to expect:

- Follow the program as it was designed... not all exercises will appeal to you, but it is important to stick with it.

- Be open to sex... 40 million Americans say it's been weeks, months, or even years since they've had sex! Open mind = open heart.

- Take the time... the day time activities can be done (for the most part) individually and at your own leisure.

- Be honest... with your partner and with yourself... These exercises aren't just about sex.

Labor Day

I hope that everyone enjoyed their holiday weekend. I spent the weekend with my family - no big cookout or anything. Hubby's been sick, so we just hung out at home and relaxed. I hope to catch up on my posting in the week or so... I don't like to get so behind, but when all of us are home I find it hard to sit in front of the computer.

It is currently raining here. They say we are to get more rain in the next 24 hours than we got when Irene came through. UGH! My poor basement! I can hear my sump pump as we speak! I would have liked to have ended this long holiday weekend on a better note, but unfortunately, I can't control the weather.

Hurricane Irene

What a crazy day today has been! The East Coast has been getting hit by Hurricane Irene (turned to Tropical Storm Irene after it moved further north). We have never dealt with a hurricane since owning our home. Really, I can't remember a time that we have really had any problems due to a hurricane. The town I grew up in has signs up from Agnes, but that one was before my time in 1972.

Our day started at about 3 am in the worst way... as I walked passed our basement steps, you could smell water. Usually it's a small amount that flows across our unfinished basement floor... but the stench was that of standing water. It flowed, but there was too much  and it was coming in everywhere! While we know of a few "bad spots" where the amount of rain was just too much for the old cinder block walls to handle. We also found a new bad spot... right where the steps meet the cement floor. Evidently, they cut into the cement to put the stairs in. They must have dug too deep because the water was coming up faster than we could clean it! It was awful! The hubby and I decided that we should try and sleep at least until the kids get up. So, around 5, I headed back to bed only to have the hubby come in around 6:30 telling me we had a problem. That is such an awful way to wake up!

As it turns out, we had a tree down. Not only did a tree fall, but the tree split in 3. 1/3 was still standing, 1/3 fell in our back yard and the last 1/3 fell right across my neighbor's driveway! Luckily for us, it didn't do any damage to any one's house or other property. We aren't sure if the tree is ours or our neighbors. The property line is unclear in that area. Here are a few pictures from the fallen tree. Hopefully everyone else made it out without any major problems!

The center of what's left of the tree...

This is the 1/3 that fell into our yard.

This is the 1/3 that fell onto my neighbor's driveway.

This is a good picture to show how it split into 3.

Around 10:30am, the neighbor came over and told us that we no longer had to worry about the remaining 1/3 of the tree. Another gust of wind brought it down!  It was leaning toward his garage, but thankfully, it blew the opposite direction. We now have 2/3 of this tree in our backyard! We got the neighbors driveway cleared today, but our backyard will have to wait for another day.

My poor kiwi plants!! OK... this one died a few weeks back in the drought......

.... but this one was very healthy!! The tree snapped my metal trellis right in half! After looking at it from the other direction, I think the plant might be alright. I won't know for sure until we get the tree off of it!

Crock Pot Meals

This post is really an extension of my last one. I thought maybe some of you might have some good crock pot meals to share? I have a small list that I want to try this winter that I'd like to share with everyone, but maybe some one else has a family favorite that they'd share with us? I would love to hear from you! Thank you in advance and happy cooking! :)

Crock Pot Ravioli

I have recently stumbled across this great website called Pinterest. What is Pinterest you ask? It is a neat website that you can see pictures of ... well... just about anything, literally. Recipes, beautiful beaches, organizational tips and tricks, things for the house, crafts for the kids, anything. Once you join, if you find a picture/idea that you like, you can "repin" it to your own wall. That lets you save it to your board while also sharing it with your friends.

While searching on Pinterest, I found some great crock pot recipes! In the winter time, I LOVE making hearty meals in the crock pot! I just love everything about a delicious warm meal that makes the entire house smell good!

I have been looking forward to using the crock pot so much that I found a yummy recipe on Pinterest and  made it for supper last night! It's Crock Pot Ravioli. My version isn't exactly like that one, but we thought it was pretty good! I couldn't find the Five Cheese Ravioli at my WalMart, they only had Beef Ravioli. I also used 1 jar of sauce along with 1 can of pizza sauce. It started off with just the jar of sauce, but it seemed to get a little dry, so I added the only thing that I had. I didn't take pictures, because at the time, I wasn't thinking about blogging about the recipe. I wasn't sure how it would be. I definitely plan to make it again. (I promise I'll take pictures!) The hubby and kiddos loved it! Next time, I'll look for the Five Cheese Ravioli and I also plan to add meatballs to the sauce. It was a very good and cheap meal. The bag of ravioli was $2.27 and the jar of sauce was (I think) $1.33.  I added some garlic bread that I had in the freezer already and I had some fresh green beans that I cooked on the stove. The entire meal fed a family of 4 and gave us enough left overs for lunch for the baby and only cost about $5. Can't beat that, right??

Saint Peter's Village

Family Fun Day - July 18, 2011 - Saint Peter's Village

Saint Peter's Village is a beautiful little town located in Chester County, Pennsylvania. The historic town dates back to before the Civil War. There is a bakery, an arcade, an ice cream shoppe, an antique store, an inn and restaurant. There is also a creek and a hiking trail. Here are a few pictures from our visit. We went on a Monday and most of the shops are closed on Mondays. We were hoping to go on a hike while we were there, but the temperature was so stinking hot it was just too unbearable! It didn't help any that we took the stroller and the trail is not stroller friendly. We did have a ton of fun walking around. We do plan to go back when the weather is a little cooler and we know to bring the back pack to carry the baby around.

A look down the road and the rest of town.

I thought this was a really neat twist on down spouting.
